What makes these mugs so special is their production: Each one is hand crafted and therefore unique. When being baked at a temperature of 1300° Celsius (=2400 Fahrenheit), salt is added, which immediately melts and sets free sodium. The sodium reacts with the silica in the clay and forms the characteristic, slightly coarse glazing.

The advantages of a salt glazed mug are that it is completely free of poisonous additives, neutral in taste and suited for both microwave ovens and dishwashers.
